Which charitable organizations are eligible for consideration by the group?
In order to be considered at a meeting, the organization must be based in the Grey and Bruce County area and it must be a registered not-for-profit or charitable organization eligible to provide tax receipts for donations.
How are organizations nominated?
Any current member wishing to submit a charitable organization for consideration must complete and submit an Organization Nomination Form at least two weeks prior to the scheduled meeting.
How often can a charity be nominated?
Once nominated, the organization remains nominated until either the nominating member withdraws the organization, or the organization is presented for consideration at a meeting. If selected as the recipient of our donation, the organization is not eligible to be nominated again for 12 months. Organizations that are presented but not selected are withdrawn from the list of nominees for the following meeting but are reinstated to our list of nominees for subsequent meetings.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes, as only registered not-for-profit and charitable organizations will be considered by the group. Cheques are written directly to the charitable organization and NOT to 100 Women Who Care Grey-Bruce. Tax receipts will be issued directly by the charitable organization
How is the organization that receives the group donation chosen?
Any member who has submitted her Commitment Form for the current year is eligible to submit a separate Organization Nomination Form for as many eligible organizations as she wishes. At or prior to each meeting, a random draw to select three organizations will occur. Each of the three nominating members will be asked to give a short (7 minute) presentation as to why the organization they are nominating should receive the donation. Up to 5 minutes is allowed following each presentation for Q & A. We encourage members to participate by submitting the names of local, needy, charitable organizations!
What if I cannot attend a meeting?
That's okay! We understand that our lives are busy and our members may not be able to attend every meeting. We send an email to our members following each meeting to provide a summary of the presentations. Shortly after the meeting, each member will receive a link to our online Voting Survey. Once the survey results have been tabulated, members will be notified of the selected recipient by email. The email will include options for submitting your donation.
Our current donation submission options are:
- Online via electronic transfer.
- Cheque (mailing address for cheques will be provided in the email)
- Cash (delivered to a member of the 100 Women Grey-Bruce steering committee)
Can I just send the donation to the charity myself?
Because the goal of 100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce is to make a large donation on behalf of the whole group, the answer is no. We want to be able to support this endeavor and give $10,000+ dollars at a time to make a large impact in our community with each member's donation being part of the larger donation. This is the power of joining forces! We also need to be able to track your donations so that you get credit for the donation and remain eligible for submitting charities and voting at meetings.
How long do the meetings last?
Meetings are intended to be very short - no longer than 60 minutes. That having been said, there is the opportunity to socialize after the meeting.
Can I bring a friend to the meeting?
Absolutely! We are always seeking women who care!
We encourage guests/potential members to attend a meeting before committing to join. After attending a meeting, if she wishes to become a part of this fabulous group, she may submit a Commitment Form for the current year. In order to vote at a meeting, individuals must have submitted a signed Commitment Form and be a member in good standing (i.e. up to date on contributions). Guests at a meeting are welcome to observe and may contribute a donation if inspired to do so.
Does any of my donation go to administration costs of 100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce?
Absolutely not!
100 Women Who Care Grey-Bruce is organized and operated entirely by volunteers. 100% of the money raised at our meetings goes directly to the selected organizations.
What do you do with the personal information that is collected on my Commitment Form?
100 Women Who Care Grey-Bruce collects your personal information (including name, address, email address, phone number) strictly for the purposes of maintaining our membership list and providing email or mailing addresses to our recipients for tax receipt distribution. 100 WWC Grey-Bruce will not sell, give or otherwise share your personal information without your express consent, unless required by law.
